How to Post Property Ads That Search Engines Will Love – Part 1
I’ve been posting property ads for 2 years already with my 2 other real estate websites so I kind of get to know what people are typing in search engines when they are looking to buy properties. I know these as most of my website traffic came from the popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. As a real estate property ad poster, it is important for you to know these so that your property ads will attract the kind of people who are likely to buy what you are posting or selling.
Let’s go first with the property searchers. When a person is looking for a property to buy, what does s/he usually types in the search engines? I bet s/he will type the property’s location, say Philippines or Quezon City if s/he wants to be more specific. Together with the location, s/he will also type the word “property” or any similar terms, say “house and lot” if s/he specifically is looking for “house and lot”. In order to show properties that being sold, s/he will type the word “for sale”.
Combining these three terms, you get either “quezon city house and lot for sale” or “house and lot for sale philippines” or any other order of these words the user prefers. One thing for sure – all three components are present.
The other side of the equation are the search engines. These are simply web programs that crawl contents of web pages (your post is a web page) and index them in their servers. They also rank web pages by relevance for certain keywords. When they say relevant for a certain keyword, say “quezon city house and lot for sale”, your page or ad post should contain these keywords. The order or ranking of pages is shown by Google when you type the keywords in the input box of Google’s main page. If you are a frequent Google user, you probably have already seen this many times. The first page or entry returned or displayed is the highest ranked page or website.
Now for the most important part, you should know how to relate these two things and apply it to the ad posts that you are creating. Since search engines rank pages for a certain keyword based on relevance – whether they can see those keywords often in your post; therefore, it is important that you include them in your ad copy. Let’s say that Google loved your post the most because it is the most relevant for a certain keyword like “quezon city house and lot for sale” and a person suddenly types this in Google and seen your ad as the first entry, then you already got a potential customer reading your ad and potentially going to contact you to ask for more details! How’s that for doing business?
So how can I implement this? You might have asked. There are many ways how you can make your ad post relevant to the search engine or what is more popularly known as “optimizing a page”. The first and the most important might be ad title. Let’s continue with our example. If you are selling a house and lot in Quezon City, Philippines, you ad title should go something like
Quezon City, Philippines House and Lot for Sale OR
Quezon City House and Lot for Sale
The two examples above contains the three important terms I mentioned earlier – location, property type, and “for sale” keywords. You should also include any specific area in Quezon City where the property is located, say in Novaliches. Adding this, your add would be Novaliches, Quezon City House and Lot for Sale or any variant.
There are still other ways to optimize your post and I will discuss it in my upcoming posts. For the meantime, make sure that you implement this technique in your ad posts to take advantage of the power of search engines. And by the way, you just learned one of the basics of what they commonly called Search Engine Optimization or SEO.
